IHE submission to OfS consultation on recurrent funding May 2021

Following the Secretary of State’s guidance letter outlining the Department’s wish to see cuts made to creative and arts disciplines (C1 courses) and the removal of the London Weighting, IHE responded to the consultation following our own consultation with members, partner bodies, and the wider sector. We also undertook numerous discussions with Departmental officials about the cuts and connected issues related to the vital importance of creative higher education and its role in our economy and society.

We made clear in our response that we do not support the cuts and they would have a detrimental impact on subject innovation, and widening participation. We also noted the ‘multiplier’ role that higher education in London plays for the sector across the UK.

We will continue to engage with members on the forthcoming consultation on funding for specialist providers which is outlined in the recurrent funding consultation.
