Matrix was set up in 2001 with the aim of offering high quality integrative training for counsellors.
In 2005 Matrix achieved validation from Middlesex University and offered the first degree award for counselling in Suffolk. Since then Matrix has achieved UKCP registration and joined the PCIPC (Psychotherapeutic Counselling & Intersubjective Psychotherapy) College of UKCP.
We offer a three-year BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling. The course programme was developed and is delivered and assessed by Matrix and is awarded and quality assured by Middlesex University.
We follow the UKCP Standards for Education and Training. On successful completion of the course it is possible, with additional client work, to gain UKCP registration as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
Our counselling training is based in East Anglia and the courses are run in Ipswich and near Norwich. We have students travelling to us from a very wide geographical area.
Teaching takes place over 12 teaching weekends over the academic year. In the second and third year of the course students have placements in voluntary agencies in the community.
Matrix’s aim is to create a fertile learning environment where our students can develop a sound philosophy of theory and practice that embraces concepts and perspectives from different schools of psychotherapy. This philosophy has to be coherent and congruent with the belief system of the student.
All our students are adult learners and much of the work is undertaken at home. We encourage the development of study skills groups to help our students study in between training weekends.
Our course is designed to create competent Integrative Counsellors who are ready to work in the counselling field and develop a career in counselling. Our graduates work in areas such as charitable organizations, GP surgeries, student support in universities and private practice.
