The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) is an independent group who advise the government on migration issues. Early this summer, the government commissioned the MAC to undertake two major pieces of research: one on the future system of salary thresholds; and one on an ‘Australian-style’ points-based system. Both topics are major in their own right and have a significant impact on the UK immigration system and labour market and hence a call for evidence has been launched to seek views from across the relevant sectors.
The salary threshold consultation has set out a number of potential options of threshold setting including a single minimum threshold with some flexibility, a going rate for roles or a combination of the two. In addition, the MAC is asked to consider the impact salary thresholds will have on a range of areas including:
- annual net migration;
- the resident workforce;
- migrant workers;
- the supply of labour;
- public finances; and
- the effects on the economy
The ‘Australian-style’ points-based system consultation is calling on views and evidence for from anyone with relevant knowledge, expertise or experience to help inform the MAC response.
This webinar will explain how members can input into the two consultations, as well as an opportunity to feed into Independent HE’s response. The webinar will be led by Joy Elliott-Bowman, Director of Policy and Development at Independent H
