Independent Higher Education (IHE) is proud to welcome three high profile institutions as its newest members: BPP University, Pearson College London and The London Institute of Banking & Finance.
These pioneering institutions join us at a time of significant change for all higher education providers and we are greatly looking forward to working together to promote the virtues of independent providers of higher education to Government, students and the sector as a whole.
BPP University is the UK’s only university dedicated to business and the professions, with highly rated programmes in law, business, finance and health in centres across the country. Pearson College London is unique as a FTSE 100 company delivering UK degrees as Pearson Business School and Escape Studios, Europe’s premier visual effects academy. The London Institute of Banking & Finance (formerly ifs University College) has operated at the heart of London’s financial sector since 1879 and specialises in undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses in banking and finance.
Alexander Proudfoot, Chief Executive of Independent Higher Education, said:
“IHE’s work is guided by a vision of higher education which combines the best traditions of academic excellence with a restless drive for innovation and relevance to the world today. We want students young and old to have the widest possible choice of world-class higher education courses which prepare them for life and work in this fast-moving, global century.
“I am thrilled, therefore, to welcome as members three of the UK’s leading independent institutions, who not only share our vision but have put it into practice, offering higher education and professional qualifications which are internationally recognised as best in class. They join a thriving community of independent providers who are at the leading edge of this bold new era in UK higher education.”
Professor Carl Lygo, Vice Chancellor BPP University, said:
“We are delighted to support the work of Independent Higher Education under the inspirational leadership of Alex Proudfoot. BPP University, as a pioneer in private UK Higher Education, has a duty to help firmly establish a high quality independent sector in the UK. As BPP University celebrates its 100,000th alumni since gaining degree awarding powers, I am delighted to stand shoulder to shoulder with innovators and leaders in the private sector seeking to make a positive change to UK Higher Education. There is much work for us all to do to challenge the status quo. BPP will continue to be a sponsor of Wonkhe and the Higher Education Policy Institute and a founder member of the Independent Universities Group.”
Roxanne Stockwell, Principal of Pearson College London, said:
“We feel it’s really important for Pearson College London to be joining Independent Higher Education, and we look forward to working with the other members to build a community committed to high quality and innovation. This is an interesting but undoubtedly challenging time for HE providers of all types, and IHE provides a great forum for specialist educational organisations like ourselves to work together in facing these challenges and shaping the future of university education.”
Alex Fraser, Chief Executive of The London Institute of Banking & Finance, said:
“We are delighted to be joining Independent Higher Education and are looking forward to sharing our expertise and insights with our fellow members, as well as learning from their experiences. With the UK’s Higher Education landscape set for significant change in the coming years, IHE has an important role to play in ensuring that the views of the alternative sector are heard.”
